Counterattack Amazon’s FBA Long-Term Storage for Q1 2016

Amazon has built the greatest fulfillment network the world has ever seen.  Sellers like me leverage Fulfillment by Amazon, or FBA, to move mountains of product every month.

The Amazon fulfillment system is ideal for fast moving, replenishable, products. You send the product in to FBA, it sells, you get paid. Rinse. Repeat.

Unfortunately no business, let alone individual seller, is perfect. We all source slow moving product from time to time.

Demand changes, competition says “Hello!“, products liquidate, and you are left holding the charred remains of once profitable products from a bygone era.

Thankfully we can learn from these mistakes. That’s a huge positive.

One way Amazon reminds us to learn this, is by assessing their twice-a-year Long Term Storage Fee.

You should have received an email titled, “Reminder: FBA Aged Inventory Notification“.

Search your inbox for that now.

You will see an estimated assessment on what you will owe on 2/15/16 if you don’t sell, dispose, or pull your stagnating product.

Do Work Be Great #5

Are you ready to get into concrete numbers after yesterday’s mental planning session?

Let’s start off slow. Back to your childhood perhaps.

Do you remember watching the ACME cartoons? Specifically the episodes where a character jumps in the air, hits the dynamite plunger, and causes a massive explosion after the fire on the line hits the TNT?

There are a few moments before everything goes BOOM! In our childhood we chuckled and thought nothing of it. Now, I view it as a microcosm of businesses success or failure.

The act of hitting the plunger? The investment of time, capital, or any resources into a product or project. The wire? The burn rate. The “BOOM!”? The end result…positive or negative, depending on which side of the story you are on.

Take the next ten minutes to consider how hot your burn rate is by reading below.

Ryan’s Picks 5-8-15 Sasquatch Grooming and Crayola Deals

Hope it’s been a good week of buying for everyone. Let’s close out the week with these deals:

$40 Conair 20-Piece Lithium Ion Haircut Kit for $24.99

If you’re brave enough to have someone trim your hair, or if you are just a Sasquatch in general, this is a great price. The whole kit retails for $50. Nabbing it half off MSRP is the best of the Conair deals today.

$30 Conair Xtreme Instant Heat Jumbo And Super Jumbo Hair Setter with Super Clips, 12 count for $19.99

I don’t know a damn thing about hair curlers. Only that these are $10 off what they always sell for and that they’re popular. #1 in hair curlers popular. That must mean something, right?

$35 Conair 1875-Watt Cord Keeper 2-in-1 Styler for $24.99

Everyone made fun of me on our last Google Hangouts for having too much hair. Since I haven’t gotten a cut since then, I should probably buy this. Get my hair all looking fancy. That’s what this does, right? Nice reviews and lowest price ever discount make it a worthwhile purchase.

Lastly, we have a dozen crayola products that are ~40% off. I’m not into the whole little kid art scene, but maybe you are? If so, check it out because the prices are impressive. I’ve sold a few of these before and know where the typical sales happen at. These prices are low:

Ryan’s Picks will be a weekly segment where some of the best Amazon discounts are discussed. We will be highlighting many temporary price drops, daily offers, and limited price opportunities for consumers. The products we showcase are not intended for resale. Ryan’s Picks 5-7-15 Four Targus Laptop Backpacks

I am spotlighting one lone buy today. Don’t worry, it’s a winner:

$55 Targus Drifter II Backpack for 16-Inch Laptop for $29.99

Targus makes some of the best laptop backpacks around. Today has a Gold Box for 40% MSRP for a number of 16″ styles. I have flipped a number of Targus products. They’re always quality. Check and see if one of these four colors works for you. Chances are prices will ride back up to $55-60 within the next 12 hours. Buy soon or miss out.

Ryan’s Picks 5-6-15 Half-off Computing

The deals aren’t very BEASTMODEY today, yet I still found one stunner amid the clutter:

$370+ ASUS CHROMEBOX-M075U Desktop Bundle with Wireless Keyboard and Mouse for $179.99 after rebate

I am a huge proponent of cheap, replaceable, desktops/laptops for work purposes. Why spend thousands of dollars on technology bound to be obsolete in 18 months or less? It’s silly. This Asus setup is an absolute steal. If it were Black Friday, grandmothers would be hitting each other trying to scoop it up. Not only is this computer down to $259 from $370 less than a week ago, there’s an $80 rebate incentive to boot. That’s insane. Read the reviews on this product. It’s worth $400. Picking it up for $179.99 should be larceny. Hook up any old monitor and you’ll be ready to go in no time at all. You would be doing yourself a disservice to not at least look at the specs on this and see if it fits your needs.

Ryan’s Picks 5-5-15 Entourage Complete Blu-Ray & a Dog Bed Bargain

Today is looking like a nice Father’s Day / Mother’s Day gift combo. Here’s why:

$189+ Entourage: The Complete Series [Blu-ray] for $84.99

Entourage is basically a guys version of “Sex in the City”. It was widely popular. Ask most guys between the ages of 20 and 40. They all have a few buddies who relate to these characters. So much so that a full length feature film is releasing on June 3rd. You can normally pick up the entire series from Amazon for about $190. It’s a Gold Box Deal today – which means you can get all eight seasons on 18 discs for only $84.99. That’s one hell of a deal. Seriously. Perfect for Father’s Day coming up. You won’t see a price this good until (maybe if we’re lucky) Black Friday in the fall.

$108+ Blue Ribbon Furniture Quality Square Pet Bed for $29.09

If you care more about your dog than your significant other (I suspect many ladies do) then this price drop could be for you. Amazon normally sells this high-end dog bed for $100+. Today they’ve slashed the price to $29.09. If you’re looking to have something a little nicer than a pillow for your pooch to call home, this is a bargain.

Ryan’s Picks 5-4-15 Star Wars Gifts & Gaming Peripherals

$22 Star Wars Black Series figure for $11.99 (Chewy!)

What we have here is a $10 discount on Chewy from the Star Wars Black Series line. These figures are six inches tall and are far nicer than any Star Wars toy you grew up playing with. Perfect for a Star Wars nerd who saw the original trilogy 30+ years ago or for someone watching them for the first time. This is a discount that rarely comes around. Definitely worth stocking up on as a gift or for yourself.

$35 Lightsaber for $21.99

Next is a Star Wars Ezra Bridger Lightsaber Blaster. The discount here is $22 for a toy normally selling at $35+. This is from the newest Star Wars cartoon, Star Wars Rebels. It shoots darts in addition to all the other awesome, self-created, SWOOOSHHHHHHHHHH and BZZZZZZZZZZZZ and RZZZZZZZZZ-ing that a child will do while playing with one. A very nice deal, especially for a father/son combo with the figure above.

$70+ gaming headset for $49.99

Moving on to our gaming deals today, we have a very well reviewed gaming headset. Normally Amazon sells this for $72+. Today it’s only $50. Many gamers swear by the advantage of a good set of headphones while online gaming. Now is your chance to experience it for $22+ below what everyone else probably paid.

$50+ gaming mouse for $34.99

In addition to a good headset, many a PC gamer consider their mouse to be a fundamental tool on the online battlefield. Logitech makes some of the best around. Amazon typically sells this one for $40-50. Today it’s only $34.99. A nice discount on one of Amazon’s best sellers in the category (proven by being the #6 seller at the moment in Mice on the marketplace).

Bad ass $100+ gaming headset for $79.99

Do you recall everything I mentioned about the headset above? The DP11’s? Well apply that here, then add some siracha spice and unicorn tears because these are even nicer. These are wireless up to 40 feet and pair with PS4 and Windows 8, Windows 7 or Windows Vista computers. They are pretty extreme. Also, these MSRP for $150, and Amazon will move theirs at $100, but the price has temporarily dropped to $79.99 for today. A damn good bargain.

That’s all I’ve got for today. Check back tomorrow as you never know what deal is about to go live.
